Austin Travis, Director of Legislative & Intergovernmental Relations for the Tennessee Emergency Management Authority (TEMA), will provide an overview of TEMA’s role and function, offering attendees insight into how the state coordinates emergency management and disaster response efforts.
Kristine Knowles, Assistant Attorney General in the Consumer Protection Division of the Office of the Tennessee Attorney General, will address consumer protection concerns that arise during disasters, including how her office works to safeguard Tennesseans from fraud and exploitation in the aftermath of catastrophic events.
Debra Owen, Partner at Jackson Shields Holt Owen & Bryant, will discuss the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act and its implications for individuals and families displaced by disaster.
